To Inspire the New Golfers

Grow The Game Event

🎉⛳ Dive into the excitement of this year’s Turks and Caicos Golf Association’s “Grow the Game Event” 🏌️‍♂️☀️ There was no better way to spend a sunny Sunday than hitting the greens with 22 teams of golfing aficionados, and a total of 88 players this turned out to be a weekend to remember.

🏆 The winning team, consisting of Mervin Cox, Delroy Williams, Anthony Walkin, and Jarrett Forbes, clinched victory with a stellar score of 53.94. But wait, the competition was fierce! Captain Ted Bayley’s team, featuring Ted himself, alongside Javi Bovell, Carl Defazio, and Sean Astwood, weren’t far behind, boasting a net score of 56.13 for a close second place.

But here’s the twist that made this event truly special: each team had to include a novice golfer, all in the name of spreading the love for the game across our beautiful islands. 🌴⛳ With a 4-ball scramble format, it was all about camaraderie, laughter, and of course, a little healthy competition!

This wasn’t about fundraising, this was about giving back and nurturing the future of golf right here in Turks and Caicos. Let’s grow this game together, inspiring the next generation of golf enthusiasts to pick up their clubs and swing for the stars! 🌟 Who knows, maybe one day, they’ll be the ones lifting the trophy at events just like this. 🏌️‍♀️🏆 #BobGrahamClassic #TurksAndCaicosGolf #GrowTheGame #turksandcaicosgolfassociation #turksandcaicosgolf #tcga

Spotlight on Patrice

Introducing Patrice Campbell, one of the newest members of our team here at HAB. Originally hailing from the frosty terrains of Canada, Patrice’s journey has taken her from the icy landscapes of Manitoba to the sun-kissed shores of Turks and Caicos. Despite the polar bear population back home, she found herself drawn to the tranquil ambiance of our island, where the serene surroundings fuel her creativity and focus, a far cry from the vibrant energy of her Jamaican upbringing.

With over two decades of experience in the industry, Patrice’s culinary journey began at the tender age of 15. Starting as a sandwich maker at Chez Max in Kingston, she swiftly honed her skills, crafting delectable delights such as her favorite ham and cheese sandwich with pepper jelly. While pursuing her MBA in General Management at the University of Technology, Jamaica, Patrice continued to work diligently, balancing her academic pursuits with her passion for cooking. Her dedication led her to the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, where she earned her certification as a Professional Chef.

Patrice’s culinary odyssey took her on an immersive tour of different culinary landscapes across three states. Her internships at the Breakers Hotel in Florida, the Ausable Golf and Country Club in upstate New York, and Wendy’s in Pennsylvania exposed her to a diverse array of cuisines. From the Mexican influences of Pennsylvania to the Puerto Rican and Haitian flavors of Florida – all provided her with a unique tapestry of culinary experiences which she now brings to Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club – like her Tacos, Cubano sandwich and 19’s Signature Smash Burger.

Joining the HAB family has been a breath of fresh air for Patrice, who appreciates the authentic atmosphere and camaraderie among the staff. She believes in the power of teamwork and is always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it’s peeling potatoes or baking a Black Forest Gateaux. An educator at heart, Patrice is also very keen on bringing additional training into the kitchen. So far, the staff have completed their ServeSafe with additional American Culinary Federation training, covering everything from tomatoes to tortes. The biggest change in the kitchen has been the desire to learn and want to learn new things and explore culinary adventures. Her motto: Good Food is Happy Food.

Patrice’s love for the beach is palpable; she finds solace in leisurely walks along the shoreline, indulging in weekly swims in the azure waters of our gorgeous ocean. For additional inspiration, she often ventures to the nearby sandbar immersing herself in the Caribbean allure that surrounds us.

Looking towards the future, Patrice envisions introducing theme nights, bigger private functions and developing an offshoot for external catering.  Her favorite dish, Prime Rib, reflects her appreciation for culinary excellence, while her preferred drink, Johnny Walker Black, adds a touch of sophistication to any occasion. Don’t forget if you are looking for catering, look to Patrice to come up with an excellent and inventive culinary trip.

We extend a warm welcome to Patrice as she joins our management team, confident that her passion for food and dedication to excellence will leave a lasting impression on our establishment. And be sure to catch her captivating performances at David Been’s Karaoke, where she shares her musical talents with the world with her favorite “Shy Guy” by Diana King. With Patrice on board, the future of HAB is brighter than ever.

National Cancer Golf Scramble

The National Cancer Scramble, held on Sunday, May 7, proved to be a tremendous success as 92 golfers gathered on the pristine greens of Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club to raise funds for the Turks and Caicos Cancer Society. The event brought together golf enthusiasts from across the region, combining a passion for the sport with a commitment to fighting cancer. With 23 teams participating and generous sponsorship, over $20,000 was raised, showcasing the power of community support in making a difference.

The tournament featured an impressive display of skill and determination, with each golfer contributing to the cause. The team comprising Graham Canham, Murad Mohamad, Syed Hassan, and Vaughan Paisley emerged as the champions, posting a remarkable net score of 54.88. Additionally, the National Cancer Scramble was not only a fundraising success but also a fun-filled tournament that kept participants engaged and entertained throughout the day. The event organizers incorporated unique and exciting rules on various holes, adding an element of unpredictability to the competition.  For example the 3rd where participants were limited to using only a single golf club throughout the entire play. It sparked laughter, camaraderie, and friendly banter among the teams as they strategized and made the best of their limited options.

In addition to the competitive aspect, the event highlighted outstanding individual performances. Kurt Rivers stood out with an extraordinary drive, winning the title of the longest drive among the male participants. Michelle Patterson, hit the longest drive among the female participant, and Owen Barkworth displayed exceptional talent, clinching the title of the longest drive among the junior participants.

Beyond the on-course achievements, the success of the National Cancer Scramble can be attributed to the overwhelming support of sponsors who generously contributed to the event. Their support demonstrates a shared commitment to combatting cancer and providing vital resources for the Turks and Caicos Cancer Society.

The funds raised through this event will be instrumental in supporting the Turks and Caicos Cancer Society’s ongoing efforts to improve cancer awareness, provide vital services to those affected by the disease, and contribute to advancements in cancer research. The impact of this generous contribution will be felt throughout the community, ensuring that individuals battling cancer receive the care and support they need.
