65th Annual Caribbean Golf Championships

The Turks & Caicos Islands Golf Association in union with the Caribbean Golf Association are thrilled to announce that the 65th Annual Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship will be held in Providenciales, August 1st to 5th, 2022, at the Royal Turks & Caicos Golf Club.

Nine Caribbean-member countries have committed to sending their ten-best amateur players to vie for the coveted Hoerman Cup – Men’s Division and George Teale Trophy – Ladies’ Division, in a highly competitive three round medal play event. Competing this year will be teams from Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos Islands and USVI.

The objective of the golf associations is to promote golf throughout their respective countries and, through the sport – to teach the principles of honesty, hard work and responsibility to young people taking up the game.  Through the years many junior golfers have risen through the junior ranks, some gaining college scholarships, and a select few – like Stephen Ames now residing in TCI – having very long and lucrative professional careers.

The past 2 years have seen a massive resurgence in the popularity of golf, and we are very proud that the TCIGA will host the major Caribbean event of the year. “We look forward to this event being a springboard for the fundraising and promotion of golf within the Turks & Caicos Islands for an enhanced junior development program,” states Fraser Dods, TCIGA President.

Our headline sponsor is the recently opened Ritz-Carlton. The Royal Turks & Caicos Golf Club has kindly cleared the golf schedule for this event to take place and we are indebted to the RTCGC for their support, without which this event would not happen. Dave Douglas, Director of Golf, states, “The Royal Turks & Caicos Golf Club would like to congratulate the Turks & Caicos Islands Golf Association, President Fraser Dods and his committee for their effort and vision required to host this 65th Championship. We are delighted to be their host venue for the third time over the last 23 years”.

The sponsorship list also includes: Grace Bay Car Rentals, Graceway IGA, Island Printing, The Wine Cellar, Beaches Turks & Caicos, Misick & Stanbrook, Seven Stars Resort & Spa, Stanbrook Prudhoe, Carlisle Supplies, Miller Simons O’Sullivan, Grant Thornton, BCQS, Grace Bay Resorts, Hartling Group, H20 Resort, Hugh G. O’Neill & Company, Lady Grace, Meridian Trust, Regency-Christies, The Agency, and Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty. Restaurant sponsors include: Pepper Town Café, SharkBite Bar & Grille, and Somewhere Café & Lounge.

The team from Turks & Caicos had 41 Golfers entered with 35 players in the Men’s Divisions and 6 players in the Ladies Divisions. We want to congratulate Ernest Gardiner who has played in the event for the 26th time having never missed participating in a Caribbean Classic since its inception.

The Format was Stableford Competition over 3 rounds (1 Round on each course – Teeth of the Dog which is rated # 32 best golf course in the world, Dye 4 Course and The Links Course). In the individual results Team TCI had 2 players win trophies with Jarrett Forbes finishing in 2nd place in the Men’s 6th Flight (tied for 1st but placed 2nd via tiebreaker) and Emer O’Sullivan in 2nd place in the Ladies 3rd Flight.

2022 Golf & Fishing Tournament

2022 11th Annual Wine Cellar Golf & Fishing Tournament

The 11th Annual Wine Cellar Golf & Fishing Tournament (WCGFT) took place March 10th through the 13th resulting in an enormous success!

Thursday kicked the tournament off with the Calcutta at Simone’s Bar & Grill where captains entered a friendly bidding war for rights of their respective vessels. Over the next two mornings fifteen boats set out from Leeward Cut in a mad dash to their favourite fishing spots. It was rough going both fishing days, but the excitement remained the same with the eventual fish auction offering the opportunity to purchase fresh Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo at phenomenal prices. #19 Restaurant and Bar also got in on the act, purchasing a Wahoo for the restaurant.

The presentation ceremony followed, and the night featured the DJ playing all the favorites resulting in dancing, and tall fish tales about the “one that got away.”

Sunday afternoon’s Golf Tournament at Royal Turks & Caicos Golf Club was the highlight for all golf enthusiasts as an exciting round of 18-holes was framed with a perfect day of weather. The presentation ceremony followed with the top players awarded prizes ranging from trophies and golf bags to fine champagne or gift certificates. The traditional raffle draw took place with three amazing prizes up for grabs. A Breitling Endurance Pro watch (Jai’s), Dinner for 4 under the stars with complimentary wine (Bay Bistro), and Dinner for 4 Show/Buffet/Disco (Club Med).

Special recognition and thank you to Hon. Josephine Connelly who demonstrated her support at every event as well as a special thank you to the DECR for their assistance and significant reduction affecting tournament fees. Thanks to our host sponsors, namely Casablanca Casino, Cairsea Services Ltd., TCI Lotto, Carlisle Supply, Caicos Oil, ODMC, TCI Paint, NW Hamilton, Turtle Cove Marina & Royal Turks & Caicos Golf Club as well as to each additional sponsor whose unwavering generosity make the event successful each year. Prior to this year the WCGFT has donated $341,000 to various TCI youth-oriented charities with this year’s proceeds going to the Edward Gartland Youth Centre and Caribbean Tournament of Champions Basketball Tournament.
